Tourism Target

Tourism Target, by Cebu Daily News ----The tourism department’s announced target to bring in 6.3 million tourists by 2016 when President Aquino’s term ends is ambitious.

They want to double today’s volume of travelers to our sunny archipelago.

A new thrust to package the Philippines as a place to experience “undiscovered treasures and hidden gems” will depend largely on private sector momentum and the government’s support in effective marketing and basic infrastructure on thw ground.

A Visit to Crocolandia

♪♫ Croco-croco-colandia.. Sing it with the tune of Copacabana. Croco-croco-colandia! Yess.. I’m still a little bit hung up from a day of adventure! And it’s no guessing where I’ve been to. Crocolandia! This place is significant to every Cebuano childhood. This has been part of our itineraries during the very exciting elementary and highschool field trips. And today, I relived those moments.

Discover the wonders of nature and take a stimulating walk through the park’s lecture trail. Just make sure you follow the trail right (not like how I did it) or better yet ask for your very own personal guide. They have the Reptile Gardens, the Bird Enclosures, the Crocodile Ponds, the Nature Center and a lot more. Crocolandia is actually the only one of its kind in the whole Visayas, a nature conservation park showcasing Philippine endangered wildlife.

If you want to see the crocodiles being fed then you should go on a Saturday or a Sunday at 4:00PM. And on Sundays, they feed Lapu-lapu, the largest male crocodile in the park. I didn’t get to see the actual feeding, well, because it’s Monday! Too bad.

They also have an ostritch, and that bird that looks like Nigel from the movie Rio. Just watch out for it and don’t go offering your hand to it, it may look sweet but the caretakers warned us it bites! The other star attractions include:

  • Reptiles: snakes(real big snakes), giant turtles(sometimes you have to go look for it because it looks like a big rock!)
  • Mammals: Palawan bear cat(they smell awful but amazing nonetheless), tarsier, Phil. Deer
  • Birds: Hawk owls, Phil. Peafowl, Phil. Eagle; they also have this talking bird that’s very charming(got really fond of it)

Visit suroysacebu facebook page for more pictures.

You can also relish the calm and silent moments spent in the park’s fishing area as you go catch fish from the ponds that are open to fishing enthusiasts everyday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Just ask someone to coach you if need one.

Field trips. Yes, they were good old memories we try to revisit sometimes. But how about just go visit there again. This time, do it with your children or with a loved one. A date on a park will surely complete your day, just like it did mine!

Address: Crocolandia is located at Biasong, Talisay City, Cebu,
Tel. Nos.: 511-9857, 273-1842

To ALL Aspiring Flight Attendants: Cebu Pacific to hire 150 flight attendants

Cebu Daily News announced last June about the news that Cebu Pacific is on a hiring spree to support its aggressive expansion over the next decade.

"Our expansion will allow us to continue offering high-paying jobs to more Filipinos, and keep them close to their families. Cebu Pacific will continue to give more Filipinos the chance to build their careers in the airline industry. Our plans to hire more flight, cabin and ground crew will continue to grow as the airline grows," vice-president for marketing Candice Iyog said.

The company apparently opened up 150 new positions exclusively for female flight attendants and cabin crews. I bet this is good news to all out there aspiring to jet set! And the better news for our would-be Cebuana flight attendants out there is that there will be a Cebu screening for you (yes, for you) this July 29, 2011, it's on a Friday. ONE DAY PROCESSING! Burger and Pizza at Dong Juan

It's Sunday! While trying to decide where to have the family brunch, consider Dong Juan. It has big juicy mouthwatering burgers. But it's not only known for its burgers. They also have pizzas, 3 variations of it: cheese and garlic(199.00), spicy Hungarian(229.00), all meat (259.00). The pasta dishes range form 99.00-149.00. The calamari(129.00) is also soo good. So basically they offer pizzas, sizzlers and a decent list of fritters among others. And with a reasonable price too.

The other thing I like about Dong Juan is that it is very casual.  You can definitely bring a group here for celebrations, young children, or anyone who enjoys a good, home-style meal.  The atmosphere is laid back, with simple tables and chairs, and the staff are very friendly.  I highly suggest that you readers give it a try, it is one of my favorites here in Cebu.

Dong Juan is open even on Sundays! Business hours are like 11AM to 10PM. It is located at 999 Emilio Osmeña St., Capitol Site Cebu CIty. If you are familiar with Mooon Cafe or Zao at Capitol then you'll surely find the place just near there. And they have this new branch at The Persimmon Mabolo, Cebu City. It is so not hard to find since you can pass by this going to Hippodromo and Mabolo.

Cebu: City of Culture. Still special | Sun.Star

Still special | Sun.Star By Princess Dawn H. Felicitas, Sunday, July 17, 2011 -----CEBU City unveiled yesterday a marker to celebrate its designation as a City of Culture by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
The marker now stands across another marker that memorialized the 12th Asean Summit held in Cebu in 2007.
This, as one of the members of the Asean City of Culture committee clarified that Cebu City is “the core city” among nine other cities in the Philippines that have been given the same title.
This is because Cebu City has been hailed as an Asean City of Culture not only in one but in three fields.
During the unveiling of the marker yesterday, Eva Mari Salvador of the Cultural Center of the Philippines pointed out that Cebu City is the Asean City of Culture in the creative industry as well as in cultural heritage and history.
Cebu City really is the core city. The other cities that have been given the same title have been declared Asean City of Culture in only one field, unlike Cebu City that got three,” she said in Tagalog.
Salvador apologized for the confusion.
Her statement came after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced during the acceptance ceremony last Friday that Cebu shares the Asean City of Culture title with nine other cities in the Philippines, which caught Cebuano officials by surprise.
Other cities of culture
Other Asean City of Culture cities are Manila, Angono in Rizal, Angeles in Pampanga, Batangas, Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental, Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte, Roxas in Capiz, Tagbilaran in Bohol and Tarlac.
It was earlier reported that three of the nine cities are considered the core group. These are Manila, the country’s capital, Pampanga and Cebu.
To sum up the distinction given to the city, the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (Chac) headed by Councilor Margarita Osmeña unveiled the Asean City of Culture marker yesterday at the Asean Friendship Park. This is located at the Metropolitan Cebu Water District’s (MCWD) Family Park in Talamban.
The unveiling was witnessed by ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Malay Halimah Yussof; Indonesia, Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo; Laos, Malayvieng Sakonhninhom; Thailand, Prasas Prasasvinitchai; and Vietnam, Nguyen Vu Tu.
For MCWD officials, the new marker will be another source of pride for Cebuanos and another attraction in the Family Park.

Unique Spa Experience at Cebu Fish Spa

Wanna have a unique spa experience?

Try Cebu Fish Spa located at The Forum, Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Lahug, Cebu City. It's on the ground floor of the building beside The Grand Convention Center. Click here to view map.

It is not your traditional foot spa that uses lotions and hands to soothe your feet and soles, but fish spa is becoming more and more common to a lot of people nowadays. The use of doctor fish started in 1917, when a shepherd reportedly dipped his wounded leg into a pool of water where there are fishes. The fishes nibbled off the dead skin, which eventually led his wound to heal faster. This historical fact gave people the impetus to seek this fish and its wonderful benefits. They found out that it’s no other than the Garra Rufa, now more popularly known as the Doctor Fish. These fishes originate from the Carp family, and are commonly found in hot springs with temperatures reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius. Though there are still no medical claims to these Doctor Fish, fish spas are still believed to be a wonderful option for diabetics as well. The relationship between man and the doctor fish is equally beneficial for both sides. In Cebu, this helpful fish species can be found inside the confines of Cebu Fish Spa.   It is a great choice for an  alternative spa in Cebu that is centrally located in the heart of Lahug.

I heard about this through a friend, and I got really excited. It was actually the first time I had known about something like this here in Cebu. And the place was really not hard to find, thank God! Their opening rate was 170 pesos for 30 minutes. And they had this private area for customers who wanted a little privacy which wasn't open then, but I'm sure it is now. All in all I liked the place. I liked how the lights in the pool turn blue (haha), it creates a good ambiance. It  was a very nice experience, ticklish in fact. The fishes were like tickling on the feet at first and then it felt real good after awhile. And I must say, your feet will really feel smoother after. It was like the good 'ol natural foot spa! The owner even said that they're adding more fishes to accommodate the growing number of customers. So I guess I just have to get back there and check out the place again, and let Doctor Fishes do the exfoliating for me and my loved one! See you there! :))
